I love books and what better way to show them off than on some beautiful built-ins. I'm excited to share some key design elements and tips that will help make them shine with all of your books and treasures. If you're looking for some help wrangling the things on your bookcases please reach out - I'd love to hear from you!

PAINT COLOR

Pick a great color for your built-ins! In this pretty room, we custom built bookcases to surround a window and tucked a settee (in the same color) in between. This has become a favorite hang out spot to get away for a minute. If you want to make a bold statement, consider a high gloss paint finish which will add extra punch to the space.

BOOKS

I love books and think the best bookcases should house your favorite tomes. In my den, I have all of my favorite design books and magazines within easy reach for quick reference. I’ve also tucked in some art and objects to add interest. This is where I end most workdays searching through books and old magazines for project inspiration.

ACCESSORIES

As I said before, I like books on built-ins but I do like to tuck in some favorite objects that have been thoughtfully collected. This client is a true collector and this bright yellow paint really highlights her gorgeous Staffordshire collection. Tucking in some small paintings and photos adds both dimension and interest.

LIGHTING

Showcase your collection and create a cozy ambiance with strategically placed lighting. We love using sconces and art lighting to highlight books and decor, turning your bookcase into a focal point within the room.

TIPS & TRICKS

To keep your bookcases from looking messy, consider moving the books to the edge of the shelf instead of pushed back. This instantly creates uniformity as most books are different sizes. Also, consider removing the book jackets. When you do this, you remove the distraction of different bold titles and bright book jackets. This tip is controversial and not for everyone!
