HIRE A DESIGNER
Design Scheme For Kitchen & Keeping Room Renovation and Decorating Project
When architects, designers and contractors collaborate from the very beginning of a project, you end up with the best result. I always develop a Master Design Plan first to make sure that each space is as functional as it is pretty. We establish the look of the interior and exterior spaces, develop a furniture plan based on your living and entertaining needs, and are able to tweak the architectural plans before dry wall goes up and it’s too late to make changes.
With so many details in a renovation project, I recommend selecting all construction finishes in a 2-3 day shopping blitz. We schedule back-to-back appointments and select plumbing fixtures, appliances, cabinetry materials, lighting, flooring, stone for counters and cabinetry hardware. We compile all of the selections in a construction finishes spreadsheet which is on the job site at all times. This is especially helpful for the contractor and subs so they have the information they need when they are ready to perform the work.
For this Kitchen, we made all of our selections including Quartzite for the countertops and brass hardware during our shopping blitz.

SAVE VS. SPLURGE
Renovations are expensive so you want to be sure that you are investing your dollars wisely. One of the mistakes I see people make is not budgeting for a finished space. No one wants a beautiful new room without any place to sit and enjoy it. A designer is a good steward of your money and can help you decide where to save and where to splurge. In this kitchen that is open to a keeping room, we added grasscloth wallpaper to the ceiling - a definite splurge but it provides visual interest to a low ceiling and coordinates with fabric in the keeping room.
